A small plane crashed into the Caribbean Sea, killing at least twelve people, including US citizens. The plane made a sharp right turn after takeoff and fell into the water off Roatan Island. A local fisherman narrowly avoided being hit as the plane plunged into the sea.
Rescue teams searched the area, recovering all but one body. However, accessing the crash site has been difficult due to 98 feet of rocks, making it impossible to reach by foot or swimming. Rescue divers reported zero visibility, complicating efforts further.
Honduran President Xiomara Castro swiftly activated an Emergency Operations Committee, coordinating various agencies for the rescue operation.
