The dark thriller TV series Severance is captivating viewers, but our dogs seem to disagree. Some pets react negatively when their owners watch it, with one Reddit user reporting their dog pacing and whimpering during the episode. Other dogs even hide until the show ends.
Veterinary experts suggest that dogs’ heightened hearing may be sensitive to the show’s high-pitched sounds. Jacob Ribicoff, the show’s mixer, confirmed that sound elements like elevator beeps and high-pitched tones were intentionally used to create an unsettling atmosphere.
Additionally, the visuals might confuse dogs. They often can’t differentiate between reality and virtual environments, making them anxious. Your own reactions to the show can also affect your pet’s behavior.
To help calm your dog, reward relaxed behavior with treats.
