U.S. Second Lady Usha Vance is set to visit Greenland this week amid renewed interest in the region from President Donald Trump. Vance will depart Thursday and return Saturday, accompanied by one of her children and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.
Her visit includes cultural events and attendance at Greenland’s national dogsled race, the Avannaata Qimussersu, featuring over 440 sled dogs and 37 mushers. Vance’s office describes it as a “remarkable display of speed, skill, and teamwork.”
This marks Vance’s second major overseas trip after leading the U.S. delegation to the 2025 Special Olympic Games in Italy.
Trump has revived his interest in acquiring Greenland, despite Denmark’s opposition. In recent talks, he questioned Denmark’s historical claim, saying, “I don’t think it is [accurate].” His son, Donald Trump Jr., visited a U.S. military base in Greenland earlier this year, further highlighting the administration’s growing Arctic focus.
