Rod Stewart is returning to the stage this year, performing songs from his album The Tears of Hercules and classics from his 50-year career. Fans are excited, especially given his past health challenges. His resilience and passion continue to inspire millions.
Rod overcame thyroid cancer, but the journey was tough. On Loose Women, he shared how surgery to remove the cancer left him without a voice. “The operation was quick and painless,” he said. However, it affected his throat muscles, forcing him to relearn how to sing.
“I wasn’t battling cancer for long,” he explained, “but I lost my voice completely.” Rehabilitation took months, and he struggled to sing even a single note. Determined, he worked tirelessly and regained his voice.
In USA Today, he recalled the shock of his diagnosis. Luckily, the cancer was slow-growing, and surgery removed it. He felt vulnerable but was grateful to avoid chemotherapy. “Losing my hair would’ve been nearly as bad as losing my voice,” he joked.
In 2019, he revealed he had also beaten prostate cancer. Now cancer-free, he encourages men to get regular check-ups: “It won’t hurt!”
