NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore have finally returned to Earth after spending nine months aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Their mission, originally planned for eight days, was extended due to technical issues with their spacecraft.
Williams and Wilmore, along with NASA’s Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, returned in a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule after a 17-hour journey, splashing down off the coast of Tallahassee, Florida. The astronauts were in high spirits, with Williams beaming and Wilmore relieved to be home.
Upon landing, extensive safety checks were performed before they could exit the capsule. Special precautions, like footrests and a protective screen, helped ease their transition back to Earth’s gravity. Despite delays, NASA and SpaceX worked together to ensure their safe return, citing budget constraints as the reason for the prolonged stay.
