Efecan Kultur, a 24-year-old Turkish TikTok personality known for his ‘mukbang’ videos, passed away on March 7. He gained popularity by consuming large amounts of food in his videos, which attracted over 150,000 followers. Kultur’s death has raised concerns about the extreme mukbang trend, linked to several fatalities.

Mukbang, a phenomenon that originated in South Korea, involves eating large portions of food while engaging with viewers. It has been criticized for promoting unhealthy eating habits, food waste, and contributing to disordered eating behaviors. Other mukbangers, like Nikocado Avocado, have spoken out about the health consequences, including mobility issues and digestive problems.

Kultur’s health worsened in December due to obesity-related issues, leading to his hospitalization. His passing follows other deaths connected to extreme eating challenges, such as Pan Xiaoting and Dongz Apatan.
