The debate over towel borders has sparked curiosity online. Many people have speculated about the purpose of the thin and thick parts of a towel, with some suggesting that the border serves as a decorative element or helps the towel dry faster.
A software engineer, Nate McGrady, asked if the border was simply designed to make folding difficult and prompt more towel purchases. Other theories include the idea that the border helps indicate when a towel needs replacing, while some claimed it assists in hanging the towel.
Experts, however, clarified that the border is known as a “dobby weave,” which helps prevent fraying, adds durability, and improves absorbency. It also enhances the towel’s overall appearance.
