After a brief look at the piece of paper held by Donald Trump during a White House event, the online community quickly criticized him for using his position to defend Elon Musk’s billion-dollar “baby” from alleged “radical boycotting.”
Despite previously criticizing electric cars and claiming they are only “good if you have a towing company,” Trump transformed the White House into a Tesla showroom, showing support for Musk’s EV company.
On March 11, several Tesla models were displayed as Trump publicly praised Musk and expressed his commitment to supporting the billionaire’s business. He even told reporters, “I’m going to buy a brand-new Tesla at full price,” adding, “everything’s computer.”
Trump accused the “radical left” of trying to hurt Musk’s company, which has seen a decline in stock prices, by boycotting Tesla. He later shared a post on Truth Social, claiming that “radical left lunatics” were attempting to harm both Tesla and Musk.
While Trump’s support for Tesla made headlines, it was the piece of paper in his hand that really captured attention. Internet users were amused when a photographer zoomed in on the note, revealing the pricing of various Tesla models.
The note listed prices like $112,490 for a Model X and $59,990 for a Model Y, with additional information about purchasing options. Below the prices was a sales pitch about Teslas being available for as low as $299/month, with a fee to activate the self-driving feature.
Social media quickly erupted with reactions. One Reddit user expressed embarrassment, saying Trump’s actions were “constantly doing things that would be a full episode of South Park.” Another user criticized the event, questioning why the White House was promoting a private company. Others even suggested impeachment for using official White House events to advertise for billionaire friends.
What was intended to be a moment of support for Musk turned into a viral spectacle. Whether it was genuine support, a PR stunt, or a sales pitch, it’s clear that the internet won’t forget this moment anytime soon.
