Heathrow Airport in London has been shut down all day due to a major electrical fire, leading to widespread chaos and power outages. The fire, which started in a transformer building in Hayes, about 1.2 miles from the airport, caused an explosion at the main electrical substation. The airport has been closed since Friday morning, and authorities warn the disruption could last for days.
Around 200,000 passengers were affected by the closure, with at least 1,357 flights canceled, delayed, or diverted. Some flights that were en route have been rerouted to other airports, which are now at full capacity. The fire has been extinguished, but specialist firefighters are still working at the site. Additionally, rail services to and from Heathrow were canceled, further compounding the disruption.
