Trump deletes nationwide database on police misconduct which was created after George Floyd’s death

The Trump administration shut down a nationwide database that tracked police misconduct, which was created after George Floyd’s death. The database aimed to prevent corrupt officers from transferring to new departments.

Floyd’s death in 2020, caused by officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on his neck for over nine minutes, sparked global protests against police brutality. Chauvin was later convicted and sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Though Trump initially proposed the database, it was implemented by President Biden in 2022 through an executive order. Upon returning to office, Trump revoked the database, dismantling the National Law Enforcement Accountability Database.
