Is 120/80 Really Normal Blood Pressure?

Many believe 120/80 is the standard normal blood pressure. However, recent guidelines from the ESC Association suggest that these numbers have changed.

HealthLine explains that blood pressure is measured in two numbers: systolic (top number) and diastolic (bottom number). Systolic refers to the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats, while diastolic measures the pressure when your heart is at rest.

Recently, scientists have found that typical blood pressure is now 140/90. For individuals with diabetes, the recommended maximum is 130/80. Previously, 139/89 was considered hypertension, and medications were prescribed to reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
