Ticks are more than just a nuisance—they can carry serious diseases like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. If you come across one, here’s what to do:
Identify and Isolate
Determine the type of tick (black-legged, dog, or brown dog tick) and keep children and pets away from the affected area.
Protect Yourself
Wear gloves and long sleeves to prevent ticks from latching onto your skin.
Thorough Cleaning
Wash any contaminated clothing or bedding on high heat. Vacuum crevices and corners thoroughly.
Proper Tick Removal
Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick close to the skin and pull upward slowly. Avoid twisting to prevent the head from breaking off. Disinfect the bite area with alcohol or soapy water. Dispose of the tick in alcohol or flush it.
Monitor for Symptoms
Watch the bite site for redness, swelling, or flu-like symptoms. Seek medical attention if necessary.
