On a Sunday afternoon in Geelong, Australia, Nicole Graham and her daughter were horseback riding when their horses got stuck in soft, muddy terrain. While Nicole and her daughter managed to escape, her horse, Astro, became trapped and was soon neck-deep in mud, risking suffocation.
Nicole spent three hours by Astro’s side, trying to keep him calm as the situation grew increasingly desperate. As the tide rose, the danger of Astro drowning became imminent. A veterinarian sedated Astro to prevent panic, and rescue workers attempted to lift him using a helicopter, but the mud was too deep for the ropes.
Just as hope seemed lost, a local farmer arrived with a tractor. With a final push, the tractor pulled Astro to safety, saving his life just in time.
